The Ark

By the time your child reaches this group they will have already been mixing with their peers and are ready for new experiences and learning.

In the Ark we follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum and plan activities for the children to encourage and achieve each stepping stone within the Early Years Goals. We also take into account “Every Child Matters” to make sure each child is happy, confident and constantly praised in everything they do.

Each half term we work within a theme and plan a wide range of activities to encourage the children to think, communicate, listen, value themselves and be independent. In The Ark we feel it is important for children to learn through play, and to have first hand experiences of different things, cultures, religion and festivals as possible, for example a visit from people within the local community, such as dentist, nurse, police and fire department. Parents are also encouraged to offer any help and experiences they have.

The Ark itself is divided into different areas and at all times the children have access to paint, drawing materials, sand, water, dough, which the children choose independently. Cooking activities are planned and set up frequently.

We have an imaginative play area as in the home corner, which at times changes to reflect the theme.

We have a computer to develop ICT skills, a puzzle table, construction and small world activity set up for the children.

Children have access to a safe outside area with plenty of equipment to encourage their gross motor skills. Activities that are planned for inside, continue to the outside area, as in painting, drawing, sand/water play and physical activity, ie. Parachute, ball games.
Water to drink is always available for the children, and a café style snack system, twice a day, during which they are able to choose when to have. The children are encouraged and taught about personal hygiene and low toilets and sink basins are installed.
Children are on a 1 : 8 ratio, and form good relationships with each other and with the staff. The Ark has a Deputy Manager, team leader and other practitioners that are qualified in Early Years..
